The Tame Otter, a country pub in Tamworth
We’ve got everything you need from a country pub near you.
The Tame Otter has been serving great food and real ale since the early 19th century. Previously known as the Chequers Inn and the Chequers Hotel, the pub restaurant has had many years of trade sitting alongside the Fazeley Canal which has brought visitors enjoying the waterways around Birmingham through to the village of Hopwas.
Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.
A charming country pub in Tamworth
Beside Birmingham and Fazeley Canal our old inn has excellent gardens and is great for a waterside walk. A World War II pillbox stands by the canal bridge and north there is ancient woodland at Hopwas Hayes.
Whether you’re out walking your dog or just exploring the local area, there’s always plenty to do around The Tame Otter.
