The Black Horse, a country pub in Brentwood
We’ve got everything you need from a country pub near you.
The original building was an inn that refreshed and accommodated pilgrims to the chapel dedicated to St. Thomas in 1221 travelling through Pilgrims Hatch. The Black Horse was built in around the 16th century as a small hall house, with a cross wing at the northern end, and a southern wing being added in the 17th century.
Our menus are full of hearty favourites and country pub classics, as well as our seasonal dishes, and we’ll be ready with a well-stocked bar, including cask ales, fine wines and British gin to suit very taste - which will taste all the better when enjoyed either in our beautiful gardens or by our crackling log fires.
A charming country pub in Brentwood
Our charming black and white timbered 16th century inn is a favourite with visitors to nearby Weald Country Park - some 500 acres with lakes and tree-lined avenues created by landscapers in the 18th century.
Whether you’re out walking your dog or just exploring the local area, there’s always plenty to do around The Black Horse.
